5/6/2007 It has been awhile since this page has been updated. Other than the various listing pages, nothing has been updated. Today I have decided to update it because Rochester is losing a great band. BML will be playing their last show June 8th, at Water Street. BML has been a supporter of HeavyRoc.com for quite a long time. BML played HeavyRoc-a-thon 2 and Brian Mason played with Within at HeavyRoc-a-thon 3. In honor of the event, BML is the Band of the Month.
In addition to BML, The Veins and The Isotopes will be playing the show. Make sure you get out to see the band one last time.

11/1/2006 Congratulations to our Bands of the Month for November, Massacre the Wake. They will be playing HeavyRoc-a-thon 4 at Montage Music Hall on November 18th. Check them out.
10/11/2006 We finally have all the info for HeavyRoc-a-thon 4. It is on November 18, at Montage Music Hall.
You can download the hi-res (printable version) here.
10/3/2006 Looking for something to do before stuffing yourself on Thanksgiving? How about coming out to HeavyRoc-a-thon 5 at Montage Music Hall on November 22nd? We are hosting a couple of 80s metal/rock cover bands. We're mixing it up a little bit. It should be a fun evening.

Info on HeavyRoc-a-thon 4 coming soon.
10/1/2006 To make up for the last couple of months, we have 2 Bands of the Month for October. They are Fallguy & Stemm. They are both having a CD Release show October 14th at the Arcade. The show is sponsored by Hardsideradio.com.
We are going to have 2 HeavyRoc-a-thons around Thanksgiving. Stay tuned for details.
9/5/2006 We don't have a Band of the Month again because I suck. We will have one for October. We will give you a guess. They have a CD release party. Maybe we will go crazy and have more than one. Who knows?
We have 2 HeavyRoc-a-thons in the works for November.
If you add some content to the site, you will notice that you have to add a code into the form. We have been hit by spam bots, so we need to take the necessary precautions. I am smarter than them, but they are a pain in the ass.
8/3/2006 You may have noticed a lack of HeavyRoc.com recently. Well, our old host sucked. Their server went down almost 2 weeks ago and it still isn't back up. I was able to grab the database, so all the content has been moved to a new host.
Internet geeks rejoice, you have a place to talk smack again.
6/22/2006 After much turmoil in the line-up of the HeavyRoc-a-thon, we have decided to stick with 3 bands. If any of those 3 drop off, they will be destroyed. See the updated flyer below.
6/1/2006 We have a new Band of the Month for June. That band is Visit Formaldehyde. Check them out.
Please go to the HeavyRoc-a-thon 4, July 8th Montage and help HeavyRoc.com get a keyboard with a working space bar.
5/23/2006 After a few years, we are going to get some stickers made. Our favorite printer, HTB Press will be printing them. We hope to have them in time for the HeavyRoc-a-thon.

5/12/2006 We are excited to announce that we will be having HeavyRoc-a-thon 4 July 8th at the Montage Live Music Hall. The line-up is: Bloodstained Betrayal, My Penis, The Isotopes and DSpell. The show starts at 9:30 and the cover is $5/8. Please come out and support the bands and the site.

5/1/2006 The Following Dawn is the Band of the Month for May. They have a couple shows coming up and they are releasing an EP. Check them out at a show and pick up a disc. They put on an energetic show, thatis not to be missed.
Do you have something happening this summer? Drop us a line and maybe we will make you the next Band of the Month.
4/24/2006 From UVTV Syracuse NY - Apr 24 2006 – The last in the trilogy (or “Hat Trick” for you hockey fans out there) of live performances of Psyopus is available online (http://uvtv.info/psyopus.php). This time it is for their track “Death, . . . I” and again the footage was taken at a benefit concert for Handicapped Children last September in Endicott NY
4/23/2006 We spent the last couple months re-writing the site in a different programming language. We used that opportunity to update the links, make some new pages and remove some others. We got rid of the Interviews and Reviews because of our unability to give the sections their proper attention. We added a RocServices page which list providers of various services that bands will find helpful. You may also notice that postings on the various pages will be made quicker than before.
If you have linked to a subpage to HeavyRoc.com, you will probably need to update the link to .php instead of .asp.
If you notice any issues on the site, please or send us a message on AIM.
4/19/2006 We have schedule HeavyRoc-a-thon IV. It is at Montage on July 8th, so don't schedule any shows that day. More info to come.
4/18/2006 From UVTV Syracuse NY - Apr 17 2006 – There is a new live performance of Psyopus playing their track “Mannequin” online available for viewing at the Underground Video Television website (http://uvtv.info/psyopus.php). The footage was taken at a benefit concert for Handicapped Children last September in Endicott NY.
Syracuse NY - Apr 19 2006 – There is another new live performance of Psyopus this time for their track “The White Light” online available for viewing at the Underground Video Television website (http://uvtv.info/psyopus.php). The footage was taken at a benefit concert for Handicapped Children last September in Endicott NY.
4/1/2006 We have a new Band of the Month for April. That band is BML. Despite the MySpace page, these guys are good. If you are in the mood to shake your booty, go to Montage May 6th to check out their CD release show with Ted Eddison from Syracuse. 7 out of 10 RocBoard users agree, BML is sweet.
Do you have something happening in June or early July? Drop us a line and maybe we will make you the next Band of the Month.
Look for an updated site and quicker site updates, sometime in the next 5 years.
3/10/2006
Benefit for Ryan McPhee
March 15th, 630pm
$4
Hilton High School Auditorium
Ryan is a student at quest elementary with cancer. This is his second time with it, and has to go out of state for a bone marrow transplant.
So to help out, Draffin, Saphron, To Be OK, Destro, and Almost Xtasy are putting on this show, with the procedes going to Ryan and his Family in thier time of need.
3/1/2006 We have a new Band of the Month for March. That band is The Isotopes. They are having a fundraiser for their Party Emergency Ambulance at the Montage Music Hall on April 1st. Go and support a very talented band. They managed to take the worst interview ever and make it the best one ever.
We are going to do something new for Band of the Month from now on. Do you have a benefit or a CD release show coming up? Do you have a new CD coming out? Are you playing your last show ever, or your first show in a long time? Well if you answered yes to any of those questions, then you may be eligible for Band of the Month. All you have to do is drop us a line and tell us what is going to happen. If we deem it the coolest thing coming up, you get the space on the site. We ask that you advertise HeavyRoc.com on your site, and maybe make a mention of the site. But that is it.
Look for the site to have a mild overhaul some time in the next year, or whenever the graphics are finished.
As always, thank you for your support.
2/1/2006 I actually felt ambitious the other day and I update some things (nothing fancy and I probably made it look worse).
We have brought back the Band of the Month for February. We are switching it up a little though. Instead of having visitors vote (which always ended up w/ one band voting a lot for themselves), we have an esteemed panel of judges that will chose the bands based on performances or local buzz. The Band of the Month for February is Another One Down. I got a chance to see them November 18th at Steel and I was very impressed with their stage presence and show.
I also added the show times for UVTV, which, if you do not know, is a very cool TV show that plays videos from nationals as well as local bands. They will even (for a fee) video tape your show and make a video for you. Check out the site, watch the show and hire these dudes.
I told myself I would never do this, but I am finally giving in. Check out the left over there under the site links. We have a MySpace account as well as a HeavyRoc Group. Please add us. Make us feel special.
If you have requested an interview or a review, please don't hold your breath and please don't hate me. We are still looking for volunteers to help us prepare this content. Check out the contact page if you are interested in helping us.
Lastly, I have added another article written by the awesome, intelligent and seksay Julie. You may have read her article entitled "How do we know when we need a manager?" Well we just added a new one called "What does a manager do, anyway?" This will be helpful for bands in finding a person and helpful for you no talent hacks who want to be managers (like yours truely).
As always, thank you for your support.
1/17/2006 I guess it has been awhile since I have updated this part of the site. Happy Holidays, albeit a bit late. I would like to thank everyone who made HeavyRoc.com successful last year. I just checked the stats for 2005 and we had 26,328 unique vistors. That is pretty sweet.
Look out for another RocFeatures article and the return of the Band of the Month, but in a different form.
11/27/2005 Thank you to everyone who came out to the HeavyRoc show on the 19th.
11/3/2005 A great friend to the Rochester music scene needs your help. Cameron Conklin from A Day Without Rain (and previously seric.) was in a car accident last weekend. He is currently in Strong Hospital. He has a long hard recovery and we here at HeavyRoc.com as well as many in the music scene want to help Cameron out, much like he has helped so many other out. HeavyRoc-a-thon 3 was originally a benefit for this site, but Cameron exemplifies what this site stands for. All proceeds from the show will go towards helping to defray the costs of Cameron's medical bills. In addition to the cover charge, we will be selling t-shirts (design will be posted soon) to raise even more money. Please come out on November 19th to the Penny Arcade and support the site, the bands, the scene and most importantly Cameron.
10/18/2005 We are proud to announce that we are doing another HeavyRoc-a-thon. The show is November 19th at the Penny Arcade. The bands playing (not the lineup) are Candella, Warbalde, Absolution Project, BML and Rochester legends, Within. You can see the flyer below. If you click on it, it will take you to a print version. Please support.
9/18/2005 Thanks to a lot of work by Timm of Molotov Party, HeavyRoc.com will do its part in helping people get things back together after Katrina. Timm has done a lot of work and has set up a benefit show at the Penny Arcade on September 25th. The flyer can be seen below. If you click on the file, you can get a bigger version to pass out yourself. Thank you to Timm, the Arcade and all the bands that are supporting the cause.
8/18/2005 OH HAPPY DAY!!!! We have our first installment of the RocFeatures section. The RocFeatures section will contain advice and answers to questions on topics pertaining to the music business. Writing those articles will be our very own Julie, as well as maybe some guests every once in awhile. The first installment is title, How do we know when we need a manager?. Go over to the page to see how you too can ask questions or propose topics.
If there is all sorts of weird code over there -------------------------------->, our database server is down. Donate money so we can move to some new digs.
8/11/2005 We are still here. Still haven't had much to update. If you want to help the site out, please drop us a line. We could use people to do reviews and interviews. There has been a lack of interest in doing them, so we haven't. Please continue to sign up bands and add shows and services.
6/4/2005 Perhaps you have noticed the lack of updated lately. Honestly, there hasn't been much to update. The Band of the Month is discontinued for the time being due to an evident lack of interest in it. Keep submitting your shows and bands.
There was a bloodletting on the RocBands page. If you're site was no longer up, it said you broke-up, or hadn't been updated in a year, I took you off. If you want to be listed again, update your site and resubmit yourself. Please take a moment to see that your info on the site is correct. If your band has changed its name, please let me know, so I can updated it or remove the old name.
Look for a little bit of rearranging, as well as some new sections, and the removal of some others, as soon as the graphics are made .
5/2/2005 Ted Eddison has been voted Band of the Month for the month of May. They are out of Syracuse, NY, our first BOTM from there. Go check them out.
Submissions for the HeavyRoc compilation are now over. Stay tuned for info.
3/4/2005 A Failsafe Tragedy has been voted Band of the Month for the month of March. Go check them out.
2/10/2005 If you look over to the left, you will be a new graphic. It is an iTunes Store button. If you like to purchase music through iTunes, then please do so through that button. Part of your purchase will go to support this website. If you click on the banner, it will go to a website and then open iTunes.
Thank you for your support.
2/1/2005 HeavyRoc.com would like to congratulate Dartboard to Dynamite for being voted in as Band of the Month for February of '05.
Take a look over to the right there and notice that we have two new sections on the site. If they are applicable to you, then please utilize them.
If you are one of the millions of cool people that use MySpace then make sure you add HeavyRoc to your Friends. Help us get the name out.
1/22/2005 HeavyRoc.com is pleased to announce the formation of a new section of the site. We are going to start a RocServices page, that will list everything from designers to CD duplicators. Right now we do not have the listing up, mainly because we have no content. That is where you come in. If you have a service that you think bands would find helpful, click on the FORM (pop-up window) and fill out the requested information. If you offer a service that is not listed, please drop us a line and let us know and we will add it.
1/5/2005 The Band of the Month to start off 2005 is, Sulaco. Sulaco formed in 2002 and is comprised of ex-members of Lethargy, Within, and MungBeanDemon. If you haven't checked them out before, do it now.
1/3/2005 We hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year's. We are still trying to clean up the carpets here at the HeavyRoc.com offices. A few tidbits as we begin another year. First of all, we have added a new forum to the message board. The purpose of the forum is for Show Swapping. We have had requests for a section like this for the site, but it would not work so well as a stand alone page. To post your shows, at least for the time being, you are not required to be a member of the message board.
We are considering, adding a few more pages. If this happens, we may add a direct link to the forum from the main site. We are always open to new ideas for the site. If you have any, please send them over our way. We may not always respond right away, but we ready every e-mail and explore all suggestions.
No band of the month currently for January because no one evidently came to the site last month. Because of this, we are randomly picking a band. We'll have that up eventually.
12/22/2004
I would just like to take a moment and wish everyone that visits this site happy holidays. As 2005 approaches, HeavyRoc.com enters its third year of existence. I don't think I have ever done something this dedicated for three years (not counting college, cause this is a lot tougher). I feel like taking a moment to reflect. I would like to thank everyone that has made this site a success. Everyone being anyone who has posted info, or even just visited the site.
I will bore you now and rattle of some of those names of people who have especially helped. First and formost is Pat Sullivan. It was his code expertise that built the backbone for this site. I of course must thank Julie Offen for being the intelligent, resourceful person that she is. If it wasn't for her, I would be lost. Colin (he doesn't need a last name) for the graphics for the current incarnation of this site. Joe Spinelli for pushing me to do this site (remember that day in Ontario?) and Geoff Schopp and Steve Vhsdhydbdhslksdhsdsd for their now defunct local music websites, for their inspiration. Thank you to Babak for hosting the first HeavyRoc Party. I send a thank you to Dawn of War, BML, Lowton, Blue Spark + Flame, Fallguy, ADWR, 5 Mile Line, Red Letter Days and Inherence for playing the HeavyRoc-a-thons. I want to thank everyone that has given money to the site. It gets old paying for this out of my pocket all the time. You have no proof I spent the money on silly string. My regards to everyone that has ever worked as a guinea pig on new designs of the site, or listened to my ideas about the site. I want to thank everyone that posts on the message boards. Getting through a day of work would be impossible. Thank you to Joe from the Arcade, Brian (The best lighting guy around) from The Space, Paul from HTB, and Rob from the Bug Jar for being cool to this site and helping it out.
On a personal note, I want to again thank Julie, she is my mentor, and she threw an awesome party for me. I tell you you rock everyday, and that is cause you do. I want to thank Nate from ADWR for being cool to me all those years ago when I was one of them weiner street teamers. Zakk Young and the guys in Loopus for getting me into local music (and letting me make my first band website). And a thank you to the guys in Complicate for letting me delve more into this thing. I have to thank my lady friend for putting up with all the local shows. And speaking of which, I have to once again thank Joe Spinelli and also MattyD., and those defenseless ducks for finally getting me a lady friend. I have met so many cool people in my time in the "scene" and I just want to thank you all. There I got all sappy. I am done.
Anyone I forgot, TS. Kevin That isn't me up there.
On to more important details. Yet another entity has bribed me, so:
The Academy Of Shred on 88.5 FM WRUR, is looking for local rock/ metal bands looking to promote their music over the airwaves. My co-host, Heavy Metal Bob and I strongly believe in promoting the awesome local hard rock/ metal scene around us and have dedicated a portion of every weekly edition of The Academy Of Shred to spotlighting local music with our "LOCAL BLOCK." We have had local musicians such as Tony Vinci, Dave Collari, Steel Kingdom, JMR, Craig Snyder, Regi Hendrix, etc. in the studio as guests on the show and at our yearly Shredfest concerts (2 shrefests per year). Bands that wish to drop off submissions for possible airplay can do so at...
Heavy Metal Records
75 W. Main Street (in the Old Church Mall)
Village Of Webster, NY 14580
phone: 585-872-4129
One last note: you may notice that this site is not updated as much as it used to. I am a busy person, and I always say "we" but "we" really means me, and the spirit of the site/the local music scene. I try to update at least once a week. If you show doesn't get posted in time, sorry (post it earlier next time). If you wait for an interview or review, I try to farm it out, so I am at the mercy of schedules. If you want to help out, feel free to contact me. Use the contact page.
12/11/2004 HeavyRoc.com would like to help out a new studio in town. The Space is a recording facility owned and operated by Jay Wolfe Productions. Yes, your handy dandy sound engineers from the Penny Arcade have a recording studio. Being a Concert Production company, we have a large pool of assets to pull from and make available to you for your project. Suffice it to say we have over 40 reverb and delay units and well over a hundred channels worth of dynamics inserts. Just tell us what you need. And we must mention our in house backline equipment. Available FREE OF CHARGE to recording clients. Also available to rent for your shows when your gear isn't performing up to speed.
We are located in a quiet location in Ontario just 5 miles from Webster. Ample parking is available and there are a number of restaurants - both sit down and fast food - located nearby. There are also pizza and chinese places that deliver if you prefer to "eat in".
We offer competitive rates starting at 35 dollars per hour, and materials cost of tapes and cds is the lowest in town. With the advent of computer based recording, and the "high profile" studios going out of business, we are able to provide a superior product that you would expect from studios costing twice as much or more. Our engineers are top notch, if you've been to the Arcade, you've met them. These are guys that go on tour and engineer for the likes of In Flames, Chimaira, Soilwork, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, and others. If we can be trusted to deliver night after night to thousands of concert goers, we can deliver for you.
We are currently doing projects for
A Day Without Rain
Loopus
Deadset
Compilation CD's of our work are available upon request.
Call or email for package rates, or for more information, contact any of our engineers.

As a side note, we have been receiving a ton of spam, so we have changed all of our e-mail addresses. So if you plan on contacting us with questions or bribes, check the contact page.
12/5/2004 The Band of the Month for December is BML, a very different band than many of those listed on the site. They are an instrumental three piece made up of former members of Rochester bands like Cheeze, Within and Bughouse (to name but a few). Definately check them out. We also have a review of Lowton's "Dead Words" over on the reviews page.
I did not post this before Thanksgiving, but this whole holiday season is a time to give thanks, so I would like to thank everyone that has helped make this site a success, from those who helped build it, to those that help with content, to the bands that supply the info, to the fans to visit the site. Thank you all. In the coming weeks I will post another little blub thanking specific people that have relaly helped this site in its couple years of existance.
11/15/2004 We finally have the long awaited interview with this month's Band of the Month, seric. Check out their interview.
11/1/2004 We would like to congratulations seric. for being voted Band of the Month for November. We will have an interview up from them shortly also.
10/9/2004 We apologize for any inconveniences caused by our changing servers this weekend. Our new server allows for greater bandwidth usage and more storage, all at a lower price. Thank you for the continued support.
10/1/2004 We would like to congratulations 40oz for being voted Band of the Month for October. They have been around the Rochester music scene for quite a few years. If you haven't heard of them then you have been living under a rock.
9/1/2004 We would like to congratulations Escape Velocity for being voted Band of the Month for September. They offer up something a little different than a lot of the bands that have previously. If you have a hankering for some punk, check them out. If you don't, check them out anyways and expand your horizons.
8/1/2004 Congratulations to The Gacy Escape for being voted as Band of the Month for August. They are a young band, so check them out.
In addition to being Band of the Month, you can check out an interview with The Gacy Escape, as well as new interviews from Second Year and Numm.
We have a new affiliate, Aeon Studios. They are a local recording studio, website design, design, photo, video, you name it company. Check them out and show some support.
7/1/2004 Congratulations to Fallguy for being voted as Band of the Month. They played the very first HeavyRoc-a-thon. They recently lost their drummer, Jim (who moved on to bigger and better things in California), so if you are a drummer, check them out. Even if you are not a drummer, go check them out.
We also have a new interview up with Woke Up In Vegas. They are a band out of Buffalo and they are making some waves.
6/19/2004 We finally have pictures up from the very first HeavyRoc-a-thon, way back on May 7th. You can click on the HeavyRoc-a-thon flyer over on the right or click here. We are still waiting for the pictures from HeavyRoc-a-thon 2 to be developed. We already have plans for HeavyRoc-a-thon 3. It is going to be even better than the first two. More news later in the summer.
We are pleased to announce that we have a new contributor to the site. Jasper Kipursoff has reviewed The World as We Know It by The Beligerants. Go to the RocReview page to see what he has said.
6/3/2004 Just a reminder, that Stereotide will be the Band of the Month for June because of the issues we had in the beginning of May. We would like to thank BML, Lowton, Dawn of War and Blue Spark + Flame for playing the second HeavyRoc-a-thon on May 29th. They all put on great performances. We will have pictures of both HeavyRoc-a-thons once they get developed and scanned (we are behind on the times). Thank you to everyone that came out and supported the site. Your patronage is so greatly appreciated.
5/18/2004 You can see that we have changed a few things around today. Check out the Features section to see an introduction to our newest section of the site. It should prove very helpful to bands, starting out, or looking to move on. Also, check out the Reviews page. We finally have a new reviewer, Chris Ryan. He did some reviews of Spitfire Squadron from Buffalo and a Brock Thrasher solo project.
5/8/2004 We have a lot of news since the site has been down for awhile. As some of you know already, last Saturday we had an issue arise with our website host. To make a long story short, he up and disappeared without any warning and we lost our database. With the help of Google and Archive.org, we were able to retrieve some information. Please take a few moments to check out the RocBands page, and make sure that you are listed, and that your information is correct. Google provided a version of the site from awhile ago, so information may not be perfect, or you may not be listed any longer. If you have added events to the RocCalendar, please check the calendar add them once again if they are not there. We appologize for inconvenience this has caused. We have been working feverishly for the past week to get things back to normal. We appreciate your continued support.
HeavyRoc.com would like to extend a huge thanks to everyone that came out to the first HeavyRoc-a-thon. We would like to thank Joe at the Arcade for providing the establishment. We want to send a special thank you to Red Letter Days, Five Mile Line, Fallguy, Inherence and A Day Without Rain for playing the show. They all did an excellent job. Pictures from the show will be up in the next few days.
Congratulations to Stereotide for being voted as Band of the Month for May. Check them out. You can also check out interviews with Buffalo's own, and former Band of the Month, Undefined and Rochester's very own BML and Fallguy.
We are adding a couple new features to the site since we had to start over. We now have an option of adding a direct link to an MP3 as part of your band listing. This will allow perspective fans the chance to hear you directly from this site. Just fill out the form on the RocBands page. The other new feature is still in the works, but it will be a brand new section on the site, made expecially for aspiring musicians and people interested in the music industry.
4/27/2004 Check out a new interview with Loopus. They are promoting their CD Release Party this Friday as well as the tour that they will be going on for the spring.
4/11/2004 Check out a new interview with Downdriven over on the RocInterview page. They are promoting a benefit show for Rich Buongiome. The show is April 16th at the Penny Arcade. The line up is Downdriven, Missing Piece, Equidistance and Ghost. You can get more information below, on the show page or on the RocBoard under General Discussion. Support local music and Rich's family.
4/1/2004 Congratulations to Delusional Spell for being voted as Band of the Month for April. They have done a good deal of promoting this site and we appreciate it. They set a new record for number of votes. See what getting the name out does for your band?
We have officially announced the dates and line-ups for the first two HeavyRoc-a-thons. They are May 7th at the Penny Arcade and May 29th at the Bug Jar. If you enjoy using this site, please come out and support the bands and the site. This site costs quite a bit to keep going, and we want to make it grow even bigger. If you want to help promote the show, buy posting flyers around town, send an e-mail to heavyroc@heavyroc.com. For lineup, cover and age restrictions, check out the low-res flyers below. HeavyRoc-a-thon 1 HeavyRoc-a-thon 2
3/26/2004 We have an update about the Rich Buongiome Benefit Show. The show has been moved to Friday the 16th of April, and the lineup is Downdriven, Equadistance, Missing Piece, and Samara. Also, Chris from Downdriven is looking to get anyone who has any stories or even wants to jam an acoustic song to bring their guitar (but must contact him first) and jam it up in Rich's name...email Chris for any more details at this email
3/16/2004 Check out a new interview with Red Letter Days over on the RocInterview page.
Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day. Be safe.
3/12/2004

3/1/2004 Congratulations to Undefined from Buffalo for being voted as Band of the Month for March. Check them out.
2/26/2004
The Rochester Music scene lost a good friend this past week with the death of John Paul Jones. JP played drums for such Rochester bands as Comadrome, Eyes Inward, Omniblank & Rip-kor. JP will be missed by everyone that had a chance to meet him. Below you will find information on where you can send a memorial to assist his family and/or pay your last respects.

2/10/2004 We are asking a small favor of all those that use this site frequently and enjoy it. We have added a PayPal account over on the bottom left of the site. If you can take a moment to give some money, even a dollar or two, it would be really helpful in keeping this site going, and growing.
2/4/2004 We just added a new affiliate, HTB Press. Click on that link over there to the left, visit their site and give them some support. They do stickers, shirts and buttons. They are local and they work with us, so that makes them cool in our book.
There is a new server up for those interested in checking out some older bands. Go to http://leroy.rh.rit.edu and check out what is up there. If you have any bands that you would like to upload, and have permission to do so, contact Dgoff.
2/1/2004 Congratulations to Without Jade for being selected Band of the Month for February.
1/10/2004 Happy Birthday to Us. HeavyRoc.com is one year old today. We would like to thank everyone that has contributed to the success of the site. In the year, we have had over 27,000 hits, over 200 shows, 170 bands and 12 bands of the month. We have worked hard on the site, but it comes down to you, the visitors and contributors. In honor of this momentous occassion we have created and unveiled HeavyRoc.com version 2.0. Please head over to the RocBoard or drop an e-mail to heavyroc@heavyroc.com and let us know what you think. A special thanks goes FiveUnderFire and Clarity Studios for all of their hard work.
Please help us make 2004 even more successful than 2003.
1/1/2004 Welcome to a new year. We hope that 2004 will be a huge year for HeavyRoc.com Keep checking back because we will have HeavyRoc.com v2.0 soon. We think you will like it. More importantly, go over to the Band of the Month page to check out the band selected for January, Psyopus.
12/21/2003 Our first birthday is coming up on January 10th. In honor of it, we are currently working on HeavyRoc.com version 2.0. To go along with the slightly new layout, we are doing a few things differently around here. We hope that these are improvements that will encourage more participation in the site.
First off all, we are now expanding our service area to the Southern Tier. We know that quite a few bands are listed in areas that they are not really in. Because of this, we are asking bands that are actually in the Southern Tier area to e-mail bands@heavyroc.com and let us know. The Southern Tier is considered to be the area of Southern NY from Jamestown over to Elmira. If you are from either of those, Olean, Cortland or Ithaca for example, you are Southern Tier, not Syracuse or Buffalo.
We are also creating a new page called, RocNews. This page will be for submission of news articles from any band listed on our site that has a link to HeavyRoc.com. We will post information about line-up changes, your current recording, a special show (such as a CD release party or charity show), etc. We will not post regular show announcements (i.e. your 3rd Penny Arcade show in as many months) nor will we post classifieds to find your new drummer. Please begin to submit these articles now, to news@heavyroc.com, so that we have content on the site for the launch.
Have a great holiday.
12/18/2003 Check out the RocInterview page to read an interview with Theoracy, a band out of Buffalo. It is the first of our new formatted interviews, so give it a look. We have actually tried to learn about the bands before hand this time.
Look over there to the left. See all of those shows? Isn't it great? Make sure you go to as many of those shows as you can. We support all bands and everyone of those shows, but you should really try to make it out to Water Street Music Hall this Friday, December 19th. The show is a Toys-for-Tots show, with a ton of quality bands. Its for a good cause and its a bunch of awesome bands. You can see the flyer here.
12/4/2003 We have big news here at HeavyRoc.com. First of all we would like to welcome the newest member of the team, George Barnes Jr. George will be writing reviews for the site. But just because we have George, doesn't mean that you can't still contribute, in fact we request that other people contribute reviews as well. If you go to the RocReviews page you will find reviews of Inherence and A Day Without Rain. Look out for more coming in the next few weeks.
As a side note, from this point on a band will not be selected as Band of the Month if they do not have a link to HeavyRoc.com on their site. We take the time to promote bands, so we would appreciate the same courtesy in return. Once again, congratulations to A Day Without Rain. We have a picture up now so you can see their purdy faces.
Everyone should listen to the WBER Local Show every Sunday night from 9-11pm. You should specially listen this Sunday, December 7th because Dgoff will be guest co-hosting with Gina and he is sure to play a lot of the bands that are featured on this site.
12/3/2003 We hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. Check out the new Band of the Month for December, winning for the second time, A Day Without Rain. Stay tuned for some news and reviews (finally) coming in the next few days.
11/1/2003 We hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween. Check out the new Band of the Month for November, Westbrook.
10/12/2003 We added a link over on the side to the WBER Local Show site. Go there and check it out. There is a link from it to listen to WBER. Gina, that does the show, puts a lot of work into the show, so go to the site and listen to the show. Support local music.
10/1/2003 Everyone check out the Band of the Month for October, Loopus. Check out their page and then go over to the RocBoard and leave a message in the BOTM thread in the General Discussion forum.
9/14/2003 Do you take really cool pictures? We're looking for some pictures, preferably live performance shots, to use for HeavyRoc.com v2.0. If you have some really sweet pictures, drop us a line at heavyroc@heavyroc.com. We will of course give credit where credit is due.
9/5/2003 If you have ever sent an e-mail to us, or received an e-mail from us, you need to run a virus check on your computer. Someone has the Blaster Worm on their computer because our e-mail addresses keep getting spoofed. Update your virus definitions, run a check and go to Windows Update and make sure you have the necessary patches. It is getting really annoying, so please do us a favor and check it out.
9/1/2003 We would like to announce the selection of Renouf as Band of the Month for September. Check them out. For anyone that is interested, we've moved up to 95,564 on the ranking of internet sites. Thank you to everyone that has utilized this site and made it a success.
8/18/2003 We would like to apologize to everyone that has been waiting to have their information added to the site. Our high-rise office was in one of the last places in the city to regain internet access. We were working on a new site design when the place went pitch black, so don't expect a new design anytime soon. Remember, always save your work frequently. I am lying, we weren't doing anything besides surfing message boards. If you are in a band, sign up to get an interview, because we need to add some content to this site. If you want to review music for us, please send us an e-mail to openings@heavyroc.com. Thank you for your patience and civility in this time of crisis.
We would like to thank everyone that visits this site on a daily basis. A special thanks goes out to Julie for pointing this following tidbit out to us. This site is currently ranked 98,071 on the internet. When we started we were close to 1,000,000. To give you an idea of where that places us, Hatebreed's site is ranked 1,293,620, ThePRP.com, which covers a wider range of music, is ranked 51,613. Every Time I Die's site is ranked 3,113,427. Norma Jean's label is ranked 287,107. Ferret Records is ranked 218,755. Trustkill is ranked 169,981. Relapse is ranked 86,870. Playboy.com is ranked 520. As you can see, we get quite a few hits on this site. Just remember, but helping to promote HeavyRoc.com, you are in fact promoting yourselves too. Please continue to help us get the word out and please take a few minutes to contribute to this site. It might just help you out in the long run.
8/1/2003 We are proud to announce that Within is the Band of the Month for August. Check out the Band of the Month page and learn about this great band. You're not into Rochester Metal if you're not into Within. See that news entry below? Read it and participate.
7/24/2003 We would first like to thank everyone that has been voting for the BOTM, we have a new record of votes, and that does not even count the people that have been cheating. I won't mention which bands have been cheating, but rest assured, you won't win if you cheat. It's not cheating unless you got caught, and you got caught.
Now on to more important, better things. Once again, we hear at HeavyRoc.com are looking for some help from you guys. First of all, we could use the help of someone that is really good at drawing, either on paper or (even better) on the computer itself and is willing to work for credit. Send an e-mail to heavyroc@heavyroc.com. We are also looking for pictures from shows and whatnot to put on a RocMedia page. If you have anything to contribute, send an e-mail to heavyroc@heavyroc.com. We've decided to get rid of the MP3 of the Month because it is just not working out. To replace it, we would like to start a monthly contest to win cool band gear, tickets to shows, whatever. If your band would like to contribute something to this contest (it is good advertisement) send an e-mail to heavyroc@heavyroc.com. We may even let you pick the contest. Lastly, we're looking to start a local news page. We would be a good way to convey information to more people, people that wouldn't necessarily visit your site otherwise (no offense). The few catches to this is, you would have to have out link on your site (which you should anyways) and it could not consist of something like "Band A is looking for a flutaphone player" or "Band B has a show at Club X". It would have to be worthwhile news. Send any news to heavyroc@heavyroc.com, and if we get some news, we will make a section.
Please help contribute to this site. We run this thing out of our own pocket and have no issue doing that as long as people help with the site by contributing content. It is no fun making a site that doesn't go anywhere.
7/3/2003 We would like to congratulate Abraxis for being voted BOTM for July. Go to the Band of the Month page and check them out.
6/4/2003 We have a new interview up from Driven from Silence, a band from Batavia. We are still looking for reviews of national releases or shows, as well as some people to do local reviews for the site. As you can see over to the left, we have a new affiliate. Krudco is the premier skate shop in Rochester, and they are super cool guys. Go there and buy stuff. Tell them HeavyRoc sent you. You won't get anything, but it will make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. If you have a local company and you would like to have a link on the site, drop an e-mail to affiliates@heavyroc.com. Thank you for your continued support of this site.
6/1/2003 We would like to congratulate Pile of Heads for being selected Band of the Month for June. Go to the Band of the Month page and check them out. We would like to take a moment to remind you that you can only vote ONCE per month for Band of the Month. When you vote 6 times a month, we know. We finally have a review up on the site. However, it is not a local review. We are still waiting for the local reviews to be done. If anyone is interested in doing the reviews, please send an e-mail to openings@heavyroc.com. The review we have on the site is for the new Deftones album, Deftones. The review was done by Mike Barnes. We have decided to let anyone that wants to review any CD or show, to submit a review to the site. If we feel it is a good review, we will use it. If you have a review, or want to do one, send an e-mail to review@heavyroc.com. We can publish your name or keep it anonymous.
3/23/2003 We have managed to fill in the sinkhole and we are back in business. We have updated the Disclaimer. Please take a look at it before you submit anything to the site. We are still looking for people to do reviews for the site. You will remain anonymous, but you will get into shows and get free music. E-mail openings@heavyroc.com if you are interested.
3/13/2003 We regret to inform everyone that a sinkhole has opened up next to the three-story HeavyRoc.com office building. Half the building is now submerged in the hole. Due to this unfortunate occurrence, we will be unable to make updates for a short time. We should be up and running after this weekend. Please feel free to make monetary donations to help raise half of the building by contacting us at the e-mail at the bottom of the page.
3/7/2003 I apologize for the lack of updates this past week. There is a new interview with The Lemmings up. They are out of Buffalo, give them a look. You guys voted for another Band of the Month, Uprising. We are still looking for pictures for a RocMedia section. I would like to remind you that you can only vote once per month for BOTM, and we know who you are. Thank you all for making this site a success. We are well over 4300 hits in less than two months.
2/18/2003 There are a couple quick announcements to make regarding the site. First of all take a look at the RocInterview page to see new interviews from Inner Fury and Tears End. Again, if you have any pictures from shows, please send them to mp3@heavyroc.com. Be on the look out for two very special interviews and some new pages.
2/6/2003 We have a couple of announcements to make. First of all, check out the RocInterview page to see the new layout and two new interviews from The Beligerants and Negative Influence. If you still have an interview out, get it in. Secondly, it was suggested that we add a RocMedia section of the site for pictures and the like. If you have some awesome pictures of a band playing or whatnot, please send them to mp3@heavyroc.com. In addition to the pictures, the section of the site will showcase MP3s from various bands.
2/1/2003
The first RocBand of the Month has been chosen by you, the visitors. That band is Delusional Spell. Click on their logo to the left to learn a little more about them. Voting for the next RocBand of the Month is now open. Please remember that you can only vote once a month.
1/15/2003
We recently added the ability for bands and promoters to link their show flyers on HeavyRoc.com. Simply paste the URL to your
show's flyer in the appropriate field on the calendar page and everyone that visits
HeavyRoc.com will be able to view, download and distribute your flyer! "<img>" tags will be deleted as we will NOT permit images
eating up our show calendar, so please, links only. Also, please test your links before sending them as we will test them on our end, and,
if your link is dead, we will not be adding it [DUH!].
1/14/2003
HeavyRoc.com is pleased to announce the addition of its first affiliates!
America's Best Rock,
The Pit Fiend and
T-Shirt Hell. Please be sure to check
out these sites! America's Best Rock and The Pit Fiend are excellent online resources for upcoming and well-known
bands. T-Shirt hell has some of the sickest shirts we at HeavyRoc.com have ever seen. Check 'em out, buy some
goods, and start making heads turn.
The layout of the Bands Page has been changed yet again. Since this is a site based in
Rochester, NY, we felt it only right to list our hometown bands first on the bands list. That's it for now! Keep
those Band of the Month votes coming in! We're already getting a huge turnout. Be sure to let your voice be heard!
We have received our first interview back from Delusional Spell. It's
available in the interviews section. So stop by and give it a read. Thanks to the guys in DSpell for getting
the info back to us so quickly.
Additionally, we want to let you all know that we're still developing the rest of the sections of the site, and we'll be
releasing it all in phases to ensure the highest possible quality for all of you who visit us at HeavyRoc.com. As always, if you have
any suggestions to improve the site in any way, feel free to contact us with your ideas at heavyroc@heavyroc.com
1/13/2003
We've been receiving a number of band submissions and a great deal of interest from areas around our home town of Rochester. So
we're going to include information on Buffalo and Syracuse area bands as well! This will provide all local artists an easy
way to connect with bands from out of town and swap up some shows. Also, the bands page has been updated
with a new layout to accommodate the addition of bands from out of town.
1/12/2003
Do you support your local artists by going to shows, buying their discs and spreading the music to others?
Do you want to be a part of the premier online resource for Rochester and area bands and fans? If so, drop
an email to openings@heavyroc.com and get started! We are currently in need of individuals who frequently
go to local shows, have good writing skills and enjoy analyzing recorded and live performances. We only
have a limited number of openings so please inquire ASAP! Be sure to give us an idea of what skills you have
to offer. It would be beneficial for you to include some sort of example review of a well-known album and/or recent live show so we
can get an idea of your ability.
1/9/2003
We've added all the necessary forms for submitting your band, venue, station and gig. Also added
is the Band Of The Month voting system. Just select your favorite HeavyRoc.com-endorsed band and submit.
We'll be tallying the votes monthly and featuring the winning artist on the site.
HeavyRoc.com is now accepting submissions from all area bands for the MP3 of the Month! If you want to
submit your song[s] simply click the link to the left for submission and send us a URL to your song[s].
12/29/2002
Welcome to HeavyRoc.com, version 1. This site has been made possible
due to hours of work on our part. However, this site cannot carry on without the help of you,
the visitors. We call on you to add content as needed. You can post your band’s link, advertise shows,
get interviewed, etc. Please look around and take part.
